神へ、、DNSに関しての報告

　　
Reporting To God - Inside: Internet Governance
　　
ICANNが、インターネットのRoot　Servers を、神（John　Postel）から
取り上げるまでの経緯と、DNS にまつわる話を回顧しつつ
問題提起をしている報告書が掲載されていた。
　　
この報告書を書いた人は、以下の肩書きを持つ。

David W. Maher, Senior Vice President, Law and Policy of Public Interest Registry (PIR) offers his reminiscence of the early days of the Internet and attempts made to restructure the Domain Name System―an article he has entitled ‘Reporting to God’.

　　
おもしろいなと思ったのは以下の記述。

It is hard to believe, but at that time, there was still a policy that the Internet was not to be used for commercial purposes.

These were people who knew a little about the Internet and famous trademarks, and they were grabbing domain names right and left. Totally unauthorized people were registering names like coke.com, xerox.com, ford.com and so on. As a trademark lawyer, I knew that that these were clearly infringements, but my researches showed that there were no laws on the subject and no court decisions because the Internet was so new.

　　
インターネットは元々、商業利用しないというポリシーだった時代があったのね。
まぁ、一部の有識者たちで作っていたものだったからな。。
　　
DNSをなんとかするべきなのに、、なぜこんなに話題にならないのだろう？
DNSは陰ながら存在し、DNSが正しく動かなかったら
インターネットは、存在の根本があやしくなるのに。
　　
海図もコンパスもなく、自分がどこにいるか、どこにいくのかわからぬまま
大海原で漂流しているようなものなのに。。何を信じたらいいのだろう？
　　
現実の大海原なら、見上げれば星を頼りに進めるのに、
なぜ、インターネット世界には星がない。。
あるいは、いくつもありすぎて、方向がわからなくなるのだろう？
　　　　　
「インターネットとは何？」と言う問いは今でも続くのだろうし、
どんな答えがあるのだろうか？

そういえば、Vint　Cerf氏は、ICANNの会長を兼任しつつ、
.com 企業である、Google.com　に転職したんだっけ。。
　　
いったい、今の状況は、神の目にどう映っているのだろう？
　　
P.S.　書店で立ち読みしていたら、
「インターネットはわかったから、次は○○」なんていう広告があり、
勉強すればするほど、インターネットがわからなくなる私には、、、
　　
多分、私が思うものとは全然違う、
マスターできる「インターネット」があるんだろうなぁ。
